Dr. Laura Rubin will address social skill development during a special presentation on May 8, 2014 from 5:00 -7:00 pm at the Rochester Community Center. During young childhood kids become increasingly socially motivated and seek to develop friendships. Navigating the complexities of social relationships is challenging and additional support may be needed to best promote social skill development. This presentation will provide parents a basic understanding of social milestones between infancy and middle childhood and will offer strategies for supporting social development. The following topics will be addressed: 1) the emergence of social skills through development; 2) the link between language and social skills; 3) skills needed for social success; 4) disruptions in social skills; and 5) strategies to promote social skills. Considerable time will be left at the end to have group discussion and answer parent questions.
